WELCOME TO CRITICAL NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE 2010
On behalf of the Executive Committee at Whitehall Media we have great pleasure in welcoming you to CNI 2010 - The 2nd Annual Critical National Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition.
Protecting the Critical National Infrastructure and ensuring the continuation of political, social and economic activity is vital to the UK.
"If you take the whole gamut of threats, from state-sponsored organisations to industrial espionage, private individuals and malcontents, you’re talking about a remarkable number of attempted attacks on our system —I’d say in the thousands,”
Lord West of Spithead, the UK Security Minister discussing the daily attacks to critical networks controlling electricity supplies, telecommunications and banking | Times Online
The Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) is both the backbone and the lifeblood of the country. Any disruption, damage or destruction to all or part of the CNI could result in grave consequences for the functioning of government, the economy and society.
The difficulties, progress and future of the CNI’s security and resilience provides the focus for this conference.
Key Topics:
- Security and the National Infrastructure
- New and Emerging Threats and Dependencies
- Homeland and Border Security
- UK Counter Terrorism Stategy
- Addressing the CNI concept in terms of definition and operation
- Understanding the threat to the CNI, and how risks can be managed across the complex and interdependent range of stakeholders
- The National Security Strategy - Developing a best practice resilience framework
- Contingency Planning
- Assessing public sector measures designed to assure the integrity, coherency and protection of the key CNI sectors
- Considering the implications for the private sector in operating competitively whilst owning specific national assets and interests

With nearly 300 delegates attending last year, CNI 2010 promises to be the must attend conference of the National Security Calendar.
“the most serious threat was from terrorist-backed hackers trying to break into and manipulate networks such as National Grid’s, which were heavily reliant on computer systems"
Lord West of Spithead, the UK Security Minister
This year’s conference aims to build on the tremendously successful CNI 2009 conference, which sought to address the ways in which technology and effective Contingency Planning could radically improve the reslience or our Infrastructures as well asexamining the role of the CPNI in managing interdependecies and disparate security arrangements across the varying stakeholders
Also this year, CNI 2010 will encompass some of the challenges for the UK in transforming National Security and Resilience Policy into a more cohesive plan for delivery of National Security Strategy
This Conference delivers the most up-to-date information for government and industry professionals, and also provides opportunity for CEOs, industry leaders, managers, academics, and government officials to exchange ideas on technology trends and best practices.
As always, we extend a warm welcome to all our colleagues in the industry who share our interest in improving security and protecting our borders
